Twitter Loses it for Gay Soccer Prompt

If you've been on Twitter at all recently, you'll have seen the seemingly endless stream of "They were insane for this, but it's just x." Today we celebrate the version of this thread that invited users to share their favorite photos, gifs, and videos of international soccer players being very "rainbow-emoji-followed by a series of question marks" coded. These are tweets that would make the homophobic dog meme appear in an instant.

To be clear, we're not making any assumptions or proclamations about anyone's sexuality. This is simply appreciation of gorgeous sportsmen showing their affection for each other, sometimes with a gentle touch, other times with fierce full-body emotion. This is about us taking a moment to enjoy the longing gazes, the neck kisses, the enthusiastic jumping on top of teammates and caressing their beautiful faces. This is about... professional soccer.

With all the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making a team work well together, every goal scored and every win means so much. The best (read: gayest) moments happen when players celebrating these moments feels triumphantly romantic. For those of us watching the game, when we witness their radiant, emotional joy, it can feel like a window into an intimate (potentially secret) relationship.
