In Moving Post, Frank Ocean Says Prince Helped With His Sexuality

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

In the wake of the sudden death of pop legend Prince, R&B singer Frank Ocean took to Tumblr to honor the late singer. In his post, Ocean also wrote that Prince helped him with his sexuality.

"He made me feel more comfortable with how I identify sexually simply by his display of freedom from and irreverence for obviously archaic ideas like gender conformity," Ocean wrote. "He moved me to be more daring and intuitive with my own work by his demonstration -- his denial of the prevailing model."

In 2012, Ocean wrote an open letter on his Tumblr and discussed his sexuality, specifically about falling in love with a man when he was 19, noting it was his first true love. He thanked the unnamed man for his influence in Ocean's debut critically acclaimed album "Channel Orange."

"I don't know what happens now, and that's alrite. I don't have any secrets I need kept anymore...I feel like a free man," Ocean wrote at the time.

In his recent post about Prince, the "Pyramids" singer goes on to call the icon "a vanguard and genius by every metric I know...I'm proud to be a prince fan (stan) for life."
