Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, who portrayed Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry in Prime Video's 2023 hit "Red, White & Royal Blue", have provided the first direct confirmation of production starting on the sequel, "Red, White & Royal Wedding". The actors shared a video on the official "Red, White & Royal Blue" Instagram account on January 19, 2026, greeting fans with "Hey, guys! "and "What's up? !"before revealing they are back on set.

The footage includes behind-the-scenes glimpses, such as Perez filming a shirtless scene in bed, Galitzine making his co-star laugh between takes, and an embroidered chair featuring the "Red, White & Royal Wedding" title artwork. Galitzine says, "Welcome back! "as the clip transitions to the actors clarifying the plot point. Perez states, "Oh, I did want to say that we are here for Bea's wedding, "with Galitzine adding, "Yeah, we just wanted to clarify, you know? We're not getting married. .. That's a long ways off at this point. " The Instagram caption reads, "We're SO beyond back. #RWRWedding is officially in production! "

The original "Red, White & Royal Blue", directed by Matthew López and based on Casey McQuiston's 2019 novel, follows the romance between Alex, the son of the U. S. President, and Prince Henry amid a public scandal that evolves into genuine love. The film earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie and holds a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

For the sequel, titled "Red, White & Royal Wedding" in April 2024, Jamie Babbit is directing, stepping in for López, who is now co-writing the screenplay with McQuiston and Gemma Burgess. Perez and Galitzine are confirmed to reprise their roles, with expectations that most of the original cast, including Ellie Bamber as Princess Bea, will return given the wedding storyline. Uma Thurman, who played the U. S. President, indicated in July 2025 her willingness to return "when it's ready. "

The sequel builds on the first film's ending, where Alex and Prince Henry go public with their relationship despite family opposition, including from the King portrayed by Stephen Fry. No full synopsis has been released, but the video teases Bea's wedding as a key event. A release date remains unannounced.

This update arrives amid heightened anticipation in LGBTQ+ communities for more representation of queer relationships in mainstream media, especially stories centering joyful romances between men from diverse backgrounds. The original film's success underscored demand for such narratives, with fans expressing excitement online for the continuation. Galitzine and Perez's playful dynamic in the video echoes their characters'chemistry, reinforcing the sequel's promise of heartfelt queer storytelling. Production starting in January 2026 marks a significant milestone for the project, first announced in May 2024.
