Ice Age Continental Drift

Kevin Taft READ TIME: 1 MIN.

One of the most unnecessary sequels in a long time, "ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT" feels like a mid-week afternoon throwaway cartoon for four-year-olds. Despite voice-work by regulars Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, and Nicki Minaj, nothing can save the "Ice Age" crew's latest adventure from being an anachronistic, pop-culture referencing mess of ideas that got thrown together to make a few bucks. Only little Scrat - out to get his lowly acorn - can give this film any semblance of a few moments worth of laughs. Otherwise, it's a boring, not particularly pretty, tale of shifting continents, pirates, and teen angst.

Special features are plenty and if you like this sort of thing (or your very young kids do) it might be of interest.

There are a slew of 'making of' featurettes and self-congratulatory "fun" features such as:

  • Party with a Pirate! Mode which allows you to watch the film with Aziz Ansari's pirate talking you through it
  • Granny and the Stink of the Sloths
  • Scrat Got Your Tongue (about the voice-work involved)
  • Whale of a Tale: Drifts, Rifts, Beasties and Myths, Shimmy Shake Music Section
  • "We Are" Extended Music Video
  • "The Sid Shuffle" Dance Along
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Dr. Granny
  • Shell Game
  • Ice Age: The Story So Far
  • Theatrical Trailers
  • The Scratist (a pointless spoof of "The Artist" - a movie no kid saw.)
